When was the company formed
Serum Institute of India Private Limited was founded by Dr. Cyrus Poonawala in the year 1966. To overcome the shortage of vaccines in the country and to make them available at a low rate, this company made many life saving vaccines. Cyrus Poonawala’s son is Adar Poonawala, who took over the reins of the company many years ago. Today we know about his education.
How much has Adar studied?
Adar Poonawalla was born on 14 January 1981 and is the only child of his parents. He received his primary education in Pune, India. He studied at Bishop’s School. After this, he was admitted to St. Edmund’s School in Canterbury for higher studies. He completed his secondary education from here. Adar went to London to get a bachelor’s degree, and completed his college studies from Westminster University here. During this time, he also did several courses in biotechnology and management. However, he returned to Pune at the age of 21 to take over his father’s business.
Launch of Oral Polio Drops
Adar manages the company under the supervision of his father but removing people from the company who indulge in wrong practices and launching oral polio drops are some of the things that show Adar’s broad thinking. In 2012, WHO and UNICEF had demanded from the company that the gap between demand and supply of the vaccine should be eliminated. If this is not done, polio can spread again and it will become impossible to eradicate it completely. Their polio vaccine plant was in the Netherlands, yet Adar started the production of oral polio vaccine in Pune in 2013 which became a best seller.
Career started in the year 2001
Adar joined his father’s company after graduating from London in 2001. His company supplies vaccines to more than 35 countries. WHO is also given vaccines in large quantities from here.
Talking about personal life, Adar married Natasha in the year 2006. They have two children Cyrus Poonawala and Darius Poonawala. The first son was born in 2009 and the second son was born in 2015. He has also received many awards.
